About the Event

Fungi are vital drivers of sustainable development, nutrition, medicine, and ecological balance. Join us online for the 5th African Fungus Day as we bring together leading international speakers, researchers, and enthusiasts to explore the immense potential of the fungal kingdom.

This global celebration is hosted under the joint auspices of the University of Benin (Nigeria), Protection and Bioresources Research Group,  African Mycological Association (AfriMA), Mycology Club at the University of Bucharest (Romania) and Arab Society for Fungal Conservation (University of Suez Canal-Egypt),

 Theme of the Day

Exploring fungi for food, health, and as nature’s recyclers for African development”

Our international panels will dive into how mycology can solve real-world challenges in Africa and beyond, focusing on three core pillars:

  • Food Security: Fungi as a sustainable food source and agricultural ally.
  • Health & Medicine: The pharmaceutical, diagnostic, and therapeutic potential of mushrooms and molds.
  • Natures Recyclers: Bioremediation, decomposition, and circular economy solutions powered by fungi.
