Mugur Zlotea is an Associate Professor at the Department of Oriental Languages, Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures, teaching Chinese lexicology and pragmatics, translation techniques, Chinese culture and contemporary Chinese society. 

He got his B.A. and M.A. at the Beijing Language and Culture University, followed by a Ph.D. at the University of Bucharest. He won a post-doctoral research grant with the New Europe College in Romania and a Fulbright research grant with the University of Texas at Austin. Between 2011 and 2013, he was visiting professor at the Indian Institute of Technology – Madras (IITM).

His areas of interest are contemporary Chinese society, elite political discourse, the role of tradition in modern Chinese society and translation studies. His current research focusses on the reinterpretation of tradition and the depiction of traditional values in street propaganda posters.

Mugur Zlotea is the coordinator of the Humanities Division of ICUB since 01 January 2025.
