The 15th ArchaeoSciences Seminar

The Division of ArchaeoSciences – the Research Institute of the University of Bucharest (ICUB) is pleased to announce the 15th ArchaeoSciences Seminar.

These seminars are an original initiative of our division that has the goal of providing a setting for professionals in the Archaeological Sciences field from different parts of the world, to share knowledge, and transmit meaningful information about the latest issues regarding the current methods and approaches used to study the past. It is also a chance for Romanian students to learn more about the various interdisciplinary aspects of archaeology.

This seminar will take place on 18 March 2021, online, and our guest speaker is Dr. Laura Dietrich from Deutsches Archäologisches Institut, Berlin (Germania).

She will give an online presentation entitled “Bread and porridge at Early Neolithic Göbekli Tepe, Turkey”.

Laura Dietrich graduated from the University of Bucharest, later continuing her studies in Germany. Currently, she works at the Deutsches Archäologisches Institut in Berlin, and through her position, she has participated in several archaeological research of Neolithic, Chalcolithic or Bronze Age sites in Europe the Middle East (Rotbav, Göbekli Tepe, Shir, etc.).

In the last years, Laura Dietrich is concerned with identifying vegetable food processing innovations in the Early Neolithic in the Middle East. The current presentation is from the series of research undertaken by her in this direction. Thus, we will have the opportunity to see the results obtained from the interdisciplinary study of Neolithic mills at the Göbekli Tepe (Turkey) site, a process that involved studies of experimental archaeology, microscopic investigations and 3D modelling.

Due to the special measures imposed by COVID-19 pandemic, the lecture will be online, on 18/03/2021, starting at 11:00 am, via Google Meet Platform:
