Princeton-Bucharest Virtual Seminar in Early Modern Philosophy – Fall 2021

The Princeton-Bucharest Seminar in Early Modern Philosophy was established almost two decades ago by Dana Jalobeanu, Vlad Alexandrescu and Daniel Garber. Since then, every summer until the summer of 2019, we have met in the mountains of Transylvania. Over the years, these seminars have gained a reputation both for academic rigor and cordiality. The seminar has gradually evolved into an institution. In recent years it was co-sponsored by the Department of Philosophy at Princeton University and the Humanities Division of the Research Institute of the University of Bucharest (ICUB).

Because of the COVID pandemic, we had to cancel our plans for summer of 2020, and we started to meet online. Our programs have continued through the academic year and have attracted an interesting international audience interested in early modern philosophy and science.

We have just finished our series for spring 2021, and would like begin planning our next sessions. We plan to begin again in September, but we may have some sessions over the summer (June and July 2021) if there is sufficient interest.

Interested presenters are encouraged to submit proposals for short talks or joint sessions (panel discussions, mini-workshop format). In our experience so far, what works best are short talks leading to discussions either with co-panelists or with the audience. You can see for yourself if you look at our past recordings here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1391sLJPUYoA46uk4xC1LA/featured.

The deadline for proposals for sessions in the fall is June 15. You can submit either a single talk, which we may propose to combine with other proposals, or a fully constituted panel. If you would like to give a presentation during the possible summer session, please submit your proposals by June 1. Please submit your proposals to:
