UB hosted two meetings within the VOLATEVS project: Analysis of the volatile organic compounds emitted by extracellular vesicles for disease diagnosis. The project brings opportunities for students

On Monday, June 26, and Friday, June 30, 2023, the University of Bucharest hosted two meetings within the international project VOLATEVS – Analysis of the volatile organic compounds emitted by extracellular vesicles for disease diagnosis, HORIZON-MSCA-2021-SE-01 Programme (reference 101086360).

The discussions brought together researchers from the Estonian University of Life Sciences (Tartu, Estonia), the Monash University Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia), the Institute of Scientific Research and High Technology Services (Panama City, Panama) and the SC MGM Star Construct SRL (Bucharest, Romania).

The VOLATEVS project aims to investigate the potential of analysing the volatile organic compounds emitted by extracellular vesicles with analytical chemistry and chemical gas sensors as an innovative approach for disease diagnostic. Its main activities focus on the following topics: extracellular vesicles isolation and characterisation, GC-MS analysis, vibrational spectroscopy studies, electronic nose system and software development for data analysis.

The project gives students the opportunity to be hired by the SC MGM Star Construct SRL (Bucharest, Romania) for specific activities within the project and to develop internships abroad, at other institutions that initiated the project.

The VOLATEVS partners are: The Estonian University of Life Sciences (EMU) – Estonia, Tor Vergata University of Rome (UNITOV) – Italy, the Petru Poni Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry (ICMPP) – Romania, SC MGM Star Construct SRL (MGM) – Romania, the Institute of Scientific Research and High Technology Services (INDICASAT) – Panama, the Monash University Malaysia (MONASH) – Malaysia and the University Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) – Malaysia.
