Joi, 12 martie 2026, Institutul de Cercetare al Universității din București (ICUB) vă invită la prezentarea “Tuning In to sounding technologies? What is an instrument?”, susținută de lect. Cary Campbell, de la Simon Fraser University, Canada.
Evenimentul va avea loc începând cu ora 14:00 (EET) la Rectoratul Universității din București, în Sala Consiliului de Administrație (Șos. Panduri nr. 90, etajul I), și se adresează întregii comunități academice a UB: studenți de la toate nivelurile de studii, cadre didactice și cercetători cu preocupări în temele anunțate.
Cary Campbell este lector la Facultatea de Educație din cadrul Simon Fraser University, Canada, și co-director al New Curriculum Group. Domeniile de interes ale lui Cary se află la intersecția dintre filosofia educației, studii curriculare, biosemiotică și educație muzicală. Cary are două cărți aflate în curs publicare în 2026: un volum de eseuri și interviuri intitulat Education in a time of social and environmental unraveling: transdisciplinary responses to the polycrisis (Routledge, aprilie), precum și o carte de educație muzicală scrisă în colaborare, intitulată Tuning in: a new theory of sound music and instruments.
Activitatea lui Cary se extinde și în zona implicării comunitare prin rolul său de director de cercetare pentru The New Curriculum Group, unde colaborează la crearea de resurse curriculare care promovează conexiunile locale și bioregionale. Muzician activ și editor pentru Journal of Contemplative and Holistic Education, activitatea academică a dr. Campbell este fundamental dedicată reconceptualizării educației în limitele resurselor planetare. În prezent, este cercetător invitat la Secția de Științe Sociale a Institutului de Cercetare al Universității din București (ICUB).

On Thursday, 12 March 2026, the Research Institute of the University of Bucharest (ICUB) invites you to the presentation Tuning In to sounding technologies? What is an instrument?”, delivered by lecturer Cary Campbell, from Simon Fraser University, Canada.
The event will take place beginning with 14:00 (EET) at the Rectorate of the University of Bucharest, in the Administration Council Room (90 Panduri Street, 1st Floor) and is open to the entire UB academic community: students of all levels, faculty members, and researchers interested in the announced topics.
Cary Campbell is a Lecturer in the Faculty of Education at Simon Fraser University, Canada, and a co-director of New Curriculum Group. Cary works across the fields of educational philosophy, curriculum studies, biosemiotics and music education. Cary has two upcoming books that will be published in 2026: a book of essays and interviews entitled Education in a time of social and environmental unraveling: transdisciplinary responses to the polycrisis (Routledge, April) as well as a co-written music education book Tuning in: a new theory of sound music and instruments.
Cary’s work extends into community engagement through his role as Director of Research for The New Curriculum Group, where he collaborates to create curriculum resources that foster local and bioregional connections. An active musician and editor for the Journal of Contemplative and Holistic Education, Dr. Campbell’s scholarship is fundamentally committed to reconceptualising education within planetary limits. In the present, he is visiting fellow at the Social Sciences Section of the Research Institute of the University of Bucharest (ICUB).
