Since 2019, the seminar is dedicated to doctoral and postdoctoral students at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Bucharest. It aims to deepen the understanding of the fundamental authors of the history of Western philosophy. Until now, the seminar focused mainly on Plato’s work, with emphasis on the dialogues Apology of Socrates, Gorgias, Phaedrus and The Republic, where the relationship between rhetoric and philosophy, and thus the topic of logos, is of central interest. In the future, we intend to study the Sophist and Theaetetus. Besides Plato, other authors considered are the Presocratics (Anaximander, Heraclitus, Parmenides, Pythagoreans), Aristotle, St. Augustine, Descartes, Kant, Hegel, Nietzsche, Husserl and Heidegger. The seminar consists of in-depth reading and interpretation of the original Greek text, accompanied by detailed discussions of Platonic terminology. The working method is thus a hermeneutical one.
The seminar is led by Prof. Dr. Bogdan Mincă.
