The ArchaeoScience#RO Platform of the Research Institute of the University of Bucharest (ICUB) is pleased to announce the third ArchaeoSciences Seminars.
These seminars are a new initiative of our platform that has the goal of providing a setting for professionals in the Archaeological Sciences field from different parts of the world, to share knowledge, and transmit meaningful information about the latest issues regarding the current methods and approaches used to study the past. It is also a chance for Romanian students to learn more about the various interdisciplinary aspects of archaeology.
The third seminar will take place on 3 July 2019 at the University of Bucharest, and our guest speaker is Dr. Laurence Manolakakis from CNRS, Paris 1-Panthéon-Sorbonne University, France.
Laurence Manolakakis is an academic researcher of CNRS France, in the permanent lab Trajectories. From Sedentism to the State (CNRS, Paris 1-Panthéon-Sorbonne University). She is specialized in lithic technology and flint procurement. She mainly works in South-Eastern Europe, particularly in Bulgaria and Southern Romania (Chalcolithic period), but also in North-Western Europe (Michelsberg Culture), questioning the economic organization of production during the social, political, technique and economic upheavals of the 5th millennium. Frequently addressed topics by her include: European Neolithic and Chalcolithic (NW Europe, SE Europe), Neolithic funerary assemblages; Lithic technology and typology; Flint sourcing identification; Territoriality and resources in late Prehistory, Emergence of social hierarchies in Europe.
She will participate in several events at the University of Bucharest, grouped under the title “Domestic blade production, long blades and networks in North-Eastern Balkan Copper Age (5th millennium BC). Talks, Debates & Lectures”.
