The Faculty of Biology, in collaboration with the Research Institute of the University of Bucharest (ICUB), has the pleasure to organise the first edition of the Conference dedicated to International Microorganisms Day (IMD) which will be held on 17 September 2019, in the conference hall of the Research Platform in Biology and Systems Ecology, between 900 – 1800.
The IMD honouring idea was initiated by the Portuguese Society of Microbiology two years ago and aims to raise awareness among young scientists and society in general about the role of microorganisms in our everyday lives and also their versatile nature which could shape future biotechnologies, aid in biomonitoring or bioremediation etc.
The initiative of this conference represents the Romanian contribution to the series of events initiated by the International Society of Biodeterioration and Biodegradation (IBBS) and the Federation of European Microbiology Society (FEMS) (https://ibbsonline.org/, https://www.facebook.com/IntMicroDay/). The international theme of this years’ celebration is biofilm.
The first Romanian IMD edition aims to bring together researchers focused on microbiology studies and any related domain and to create new partnerships. Students and specialists interested in working with microorganisms, as well non-specialists that are curious to learn more about the microbiology field are encouraged to attend.
The program will cover a wide range of topics and therefore the participants have the opportunity to attend presentations from four different sections: medical biology, biotechnology, ecology and cultural heritage.
Representatives from Faculty of Biology, Romanian Society of Microbiology, Institute of Biology, Romanian Society of Electron Microscopy, Romanian Society of Cell Biology, National Institute of Research – Development for Physics and Nuclear Engineer Horia Hulubei (IFIN/HH) and National History Museum among other national institutions will be actively present. Invited researchers from “Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu”, “Babes-Boylai University” and Institute of Biological Research from Cluj will give presentations.
For subscription with a presentation to one of the event sections or sign up form for participation, please contact not later than 8 September the IBBS Romanian representative Drd. Moza Maria Iasmina, iasmina_moza@yahoo.com or any member of the organisation committee: Prof. Dr. Carmen Postolache, Prof. Dr. Carmen Chifiriuc or Dr. Florina Botez.
