Geosciences in the 21st century


On Tuesday, 22 October 2019, the Faculty of Geology and Geophysics of the University of Bucharest will host the symposium Geosciences in the 21st century in the building situated on Nicolae Bălcescu Boulevard no. 1. The event is organized by the Faculty of Geology and Geophysics – FGG, ICUB, NRDI GeoEcoMar, the Geological Institute of Romania, the Geological Society of Romania, the Institute for Advanced Studies in Levant Culture and Civilisation. The opening of the symposium is scheduled in the Ludovic Mrazec hall of the Department of Mineralogy, where professor Emil Constantinescu, whose 80th anniversary occasioned this event, educated generations of students. The 56 papers published in the symposium volume have been elaborated by about 130 of authors and co-authors, Romanian geologists from the country and abroad, as well as their foreign collaborators from Canada, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Hungary, Russian Federation, Morocco and Egypt. The program includes three invited lectures, delivered by Acad. Nicolae Panin, the president of the Geosciences section of the Romanian Academy, Acad. Nicolae Anastasiu, vicepresident of the National Committee of Romanian Geologists, and prof. Mihai Ducea, University of Arizona, USA. The symposium is organized in 6 scientific sessions, including one session of the Doctoral School of the Faculty of Geology and Geophysics. In the opening of the event,  speaches will be given by representatives of the Romanian Academy, the University of Bucharest, Babeş-Bolyai University Cluj-Napoca, the University „Al. Ioan. Cuza” Iaşi, of national institutes of research and development, by friends and colleagues.
