Russia’s relations with the West have reached its nadir following the Russian military operation in Ukraine; this has led to a new emphasis on Russia’s “turn” to Asia. Russia aims to enhance its status in Asia and the world by seeking business and strategic opportunities to compensate to a certain extent Russia’s loss following the sanctions imposed by the West. Indeed, Russia’s warm relations with long-term partners in Asia acted as a strategic cushion for the country to launch its massive military operation in Ukraine.
