ICUB Workshops in Understanding – 27 May 2022


This Spring features a series of workshops pertaining to understanding, hosted by the Humanities division of the University of Bucharest’s Research Institute (ICUB-SSU). The second workshop concerns early modern philosophy, in both its natural and political aspects. It will take place on Friday, May 27, between 3pm and 6pm local time for Bucharest, Romania. All speakers in this upcoming panel are affiliated with the University of Bucharest.

3pm Maria Grecu, ” ‘Virtu’ in Machiavelli: a reappraisal”
4pm: Anda Zahiu, “A Lockean account of digital labor”
5pm: Ovidiu Babeş, “Solid Explanations: Descartes on Mathematically Modeling the Flow of Water”

Meetings are held virtually via Zoom. Whenever possible, talks will be recorded and posted on the YouTube channel of the Department of Theoretical Philosophy at UB: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOgUq3dN8CXI4L6DhZT1f_Q/featured

The workshops are part of the “Understanding: phenomenal and epistemic aspects” project. This is an UEFISCDI postdoctoral project granted to Andrei Mărășoiu (no. PN-III-P1-1.1-PD-2019-0535).

The meetings are part of an initiative to encourage early career researchers, to build research networks, develop new insights and collaborative projects, all the while exploring the significance of understanding in a variety of contexts of inquiry.
