The management of the Research Institute of the University of Bucharest – ICUB makes the following statements: ICUB is, by statute, an innovative structure of the University of Bucharest, which supports excellence in research and transdisciplinary research. In this sense, ICUB entirely adopted the provisions of the Code of Ethics and Deontology of the University of Bucharest approved by the UB Senate in the meeting of 16.12.2020 (https://unibuc.ro/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/CODUL- DE-ETICA-SI-DEONTOLOGIE-AL-UNIVERSITATII-DIN-BUCURESTI-2020-1.pdf), contributing through its entire activity to the consolidation of a culture of ethics and academic integrity and implicitly following the formation of valuable generations of researchers and specialists who know and respect the highest standards of the Romanian and international academic community. Thus, ICUB delimits itself from any attempt at plagiarism, permanently and fully supporting any endeavour intended to stop practices in violation of academic ethics.
At the same time, acknowledging that ICUB supports and hosts The Romanian Young Academy (RYA, https://rya.org.ro/), established in 2020, we express the following:
Romanian Youth Academy is funded by the Mercator Foundation and hosted by the University of Bucharest. The initiator and director of RYA, who obtained the Mercator research grant to support him, is Dr Diana Stanciu, an associate researcher at the University of Bucharest. As a former Humboldt Fellow, Diana Stanciu also received funding from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, through the Humboldt Alumni Award network initiative, to build an international and interdisciplinary, academic and civic network to support RYA members.
By taking note of the documents and data previously presented in connection with the plagiarism acts in the works of Mrs Diana Stanciu, we reaffirm our full support for the strict observance of the principles of academic ethics, as well as for compliance with decisions issued under the law.
Given the need to continue the research activities and competitions of ICUB and RYA to support the new generations of researchers, we call on all parties involved to support all efforts to avoid indefinitely damaging the prestige of our institutions.
At the same time, we reassert our commitment to promoting institutional management dedicated to fostering excellence and professionalism.
