The ArchaeoSciences Platform of the Research Institute of the University of Bucharest (ICUB) is pleased to announce the 25th ArchaeoSciences Seminar.
These seminars are a new initiative of our platform that aims to provide a setting for professionals in the Archaeological Sciences field from different parts of the world to share knowledge and transmit meaningful information about the latest issues regarding the current methods and approaches used to study the past. It is also a chance for Romanian students to learn more about the various interdisciplinary aspects of archaeology.
The 25th seminar will take place on 8 September 2022 at the University of Bucharest, and our guest speaker is Professor Robert Tykot from the University of South Florida (USA).
His research focuses on applying various modern scientific methods of analysis of archaeological materials to better understand ancient cultures in many parts of the world. More specifically, he does trace element analysis of obsidian and ceramics to determine where they came from, major element composition of metals to study their technology, and element and isotope analysis of marble in sculpture and architecture to determine their origins, and of human remains to assess their dietary practices and their sources. Professor Robert Tykot has done such research in more than 50 countries worldwide, working with many colleagues. His personal focus is on the central Mediterranean but also the Carpathian basin.
He will give a lecture at the University of Bucharest entitled “Non-Destructive Portable XRF Analysis of Obsidian, Ceramics, Metals, Bone, Soils, and Paintings. Talks, Debates & Lectures”.
The event will take place at the Faculty of Biology – Research Platform in Biology and Systemic Ecology, Conference Room, Ground Floor, Splaiul Independenței, no. 91-95, Bucharest, and starting at 11:00 a.m.
We look forward to exciting discussions in Bucharest!
