Project title: Conceptually Engineering the Nature of Social Groups
Project title: What are Group Agents? Existence, Reference, and Truth
The project is concerned with the topic of group agency. The aim of the project is to analyze and provide an account of the discourse involving group agency by means of certain topics in metaphysics. This project proposes a different angle in which the problem of group agency can be investigated, namely via the debates concerning reference, existence, and truth. The significance of the project is twofold. As a bottom-up approach, the problem of group agency can be used to test our metaphysical and semantic theories, such as the accounts of existence conditions and views on reference. As a top-down approach, the metaphysical debates provide the background and impose different constraints on our explanations of the nature of different social entities, including group agents.
