Bogdan Oprea is the Head of the Journalism Department of the University of Bucharest, and PhD in Communication sciences with a thesis on the study of disinformation (awarded with the distinction "Excellent / Summa cum laude" and, also, awarded the "Best Doctoral Thesis in the 'Social Sciences' field" at the University of Bucharest's Senate Awards 2021). He teaches two specialized courses "Online fake news and disinformation: recognize and verify", and "Techniques to combat disinformation and manipulation".
Oprea is the author of different academic articles, volumes and chapters, including the "Online fake news and disinformation: recognize and verify. Handbook for all internet users" (Polirom Publishing House, Iași, 2021; Polirom Publishing House, Iași, 2022, revised and added edition), "Matricea autenticității, instrument de detectare a conturilor false de Facebook cu comportament neautentic" (in Ardelean, Florin, Laza, Ioan [coord.], "Mass-media, sub lupa cercetătorilor și a practicienilor", Colecția Comunicare. Media, Tritonic Books, București, Editura Universității din Oradea, Oradea, 2024).
Over time, he was invited to give over 80 lectures, courses, workshops etc. in the US, Canada, France, Belgium, Italy, Poland, Senegal, Iraq, Republic of Moldova and Romania. He is alumnus of scholarships of the U.S. Department of State, Ministère de l’Europe et des Affaires étrangères de France, and the European Commission, and his courses and teaching activity have been awarded several times including by the Romanian Association of the Software and Services Industry - ANIS and by the Senate of the University of Bucharest.
He has 25 years of experience in journalism and communication in public administration. In recent years, among others, he worked as a Spokesperson for the President of Romania and Head of the Public Communication Department within the Presidential Administration, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Regional Development and Tourism, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, Spokesperson for the University of Bucharest, and European Union High-Level Adviser on Communication and Visibility of EU Assistance and Reform Impact at the State Chancellery of the Government of the Republic of Moldova.
