Constantin Vică is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Bucharest. He earned his Ph.D. in philosophy in 2011 with a dissertation on web technology and its cognitive, moral, and political challenges. His main areas of interest include applied ethics, computer and artificial intelligence ethics, bioethics, and political philosophy.
Over the years, he has published on a wide range of topics, including the internet and cognitive enhancement, online moral outrage, authenticity and neurotechnologies, the ethics of artificial intelligence, the tension between intellectual property institutions and informal online norms, and the politics of Pirate Parties. In 2023, he published Civilizație algoritmică și viața în lumea digitală (Algorithmic Civilization and Life in the Digital World) with Bucharest University Press (BUP).
He has co-authored articles in leading academic journals such as Science and Engineering Ethics, Ethics and Information Technology, Philosophy & Technology, AI & Society, International Journal of Social Robotics, Humanities and Social Sciences Communications, Topoi, Journal of Bioethical Inquiry, Philosophical Psychology, and Phenomenology and the Cognitive Sciences. In 2018, he co-authored the open-access Academic Ethics and Integrity handbook, published by BUP.
Between 2010 and 2023, he participated in several national and international research projects examining the ethical, political, and social impacts of technology. Since 2024, he has been a researcher in the European Research Council-funded avataResponsibility project and serves as the Romanian coordinator for CHANGER, a Horizon-funded initiative addressing contemporary challenges faced by Research Ethics Committees.
Constantin Vică is the coordinator of the Humanities Division of ICUB since 01 October 2025.
