Veterans’ insertion in provincial life during the Principate. Lower Danube case studies

Veterans as a social group in the Roman Empire have long enjoyed the interest of researchers. They created in their places of settlement a large group, relatively rich and legally privileged, constituting intensive military settlement, which were one of the important factors in the Romanization of the limes. The workshop hosted by the ICUB Humanities aims to highlight the role of veterans in the provincial society from Lower Danube through aspects such as place of retirement, geographic mobility, participation to civic life, family environment, religion, economy.
