Camelia Bala is a professor of analytical chemistry at the University of Bucharest, where she began her academic career in 1990. She is also the director of R&D Center LaborQ and has been leading the research group working in bioanalytical chemistry, sensors, and biosensors since 2000. Additionally, since 2011, she has been serving as the Director of the Doctoral School on Chemistry. Her research work focuses on the development and application of chemical sensors, biosensors, and immunosensors for food, environmental, and clinical analysis. Currently, her research is focused on integrating biological molecules such as DNA, antibodies, cells, and enzymes with micro- and nanostructures to design new sensors and biosensors. Her research group comprises undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral scholars whose interests lie at the intersection of Analytical Chemistry and Bioanalytical Chemistry.

Camelia Bala is the coordinator of the Exact Sciences Division of ICUB since 1 October 2024.
