Prof. Dr. Valeska Bopp-Filimonov [valeska.bopp-filimonov(at)uni-jena.de]

Valeska Bopp-Filimonov studied Cultural Studies, German and Communication and Media Studies at Leipzig University. She has been a doctoral fellow in History in Germany and Romania: She was a scholarship holder of the Robert Bosch Stiftung with an extensive PhD research stay at Bucharest University from 2005 to 2007, worked as Research Assistant at RWTH Aachen University with Prof. Armin Heinen for a third-funded project on Conceptual History in cooperation with Prof. Victor Neumann at West University Temeswar, and eventually defended her doctoral thesis ”Erinnerungen an die ‚Nicht-Zeit’. Das sozialistische Rumänien im biographisch-zeitgeschichtlichen Gedächtnis der Nachwendezeit“ (”Remembering the ’No-Time’. Socialist Romania in biographic memory and contemporary post-89 discourses”) in 2012 at Leipzig University. Since 2017 she is Junior Professor for Romance Studies with Focus on Romanian Studies at Friedrich Schiller University Jena.

She has published on biographic accounts of the Romanian socialist period and public discourses and memory on the Romanian Revolution 1989. 

 

 

Her current research project in cooperation with Cristan Ciocan and ICUB with funding from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation's Feodor Lynen Research Fellowship is as follows: "Fiktionale Gewalt zwischen Kind und Tier. Schlüsselszenen aus der rumänischen Literatur" [Violența fictivă între copii și animale. Scene cheie din literatura română].
